Privacy Policy - User Information Collected and Stored Automatically

IDL conforms to the privacy practices detailed in the UCSF Library Privacy Policy.

When a user browses the Industry Documents Library, executes searches, or downloads documents, certain information about the visit is gathered and stored automatically including: 

 

This information is analyzed to make the site more useful and to assess system performance or identify problems, and is discarded or anonymized as soon as is practical. We also aggregate data for statistical reports such as the number of visitors that use the site on a monthly or yearly basis. The Library does not track the searches or document requests of individual users.

Document Review and Redaction



The Industry Documents Library takes the protection of privacy very seriously and makes every effort to redact certain personally identifiable information if found in the documents. Information which legally must be protected is listed in California State Bill 1386, Personal information: privacy and includes the following:

  S.B. 1386 notes that "'personal information' does not include publicly available information that is lawfully made available to the general public from federal, state, or local government records."

If collections include medical records, the Industry Documents Library will review the content and determine if the records are affected by the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information.
