Document Additions, Enhancements and Search Tools
New and enhanced documents were added to the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library today including:
New Search Resource -
Tobacco Industry Project Names: Available on our Help page under Search Tools and Glossaries.
The tobacco industry attached a variety of creative names and codes to their internal industry initiatives and projects and we have added a page on LTDL that contains a comprehensive listing of project names compiled by Prof. Robert Proctor. This is an amazing resource for all researchers delving into the documents!

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Tobacco Control Research

http://tobacco.ucsf.edu/fellowshipThe purpose of the fellowship is to attract individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds in medical, biological, social, behavioral, and policy sciences to develop a new generation of academic leaders in tobacco control. Upon completion of training, fellows will be well positioned to be active participants in crucial policy debates about the future development and implementation of tobacco control interventions.
The fellowship supports two years of postdoctoral training in tobacco related research. Postdoctoral fellows participate in diverse training including both didactic coursework and individualized mentoring to build a personalized research program. Fellows have come from an array of disciplines, including medicine, public health, nursing, economics, political science, law, sociology, psychology, and cell biology. Prior tobacco research experience is relevant, but not necessary for acceptance. Postdoctoral trainees will receive an annual salary commensurate with their experience, approximately $39,264 - $49,884 following the standard NIH stipend scale. The CTCRE offers individual mentorship with UCSF faculty along with courses in tobacco specific topics, health policy, cancer control and prevention, grant and scientific writing skills, career development, interdisciplinary research, and biostatistics. This program is funded by an R25T training grant from the NIH/National Cancer Institute. UCSF is a global leader in tobacco science, a World Health Organization collaborating center, and home of the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library.

New Articles Posted to the Tobacco Docs Bibliography
The UCSF
Tobacco Documents Bibliography was just updated with 11 new papers and reports written using the tobacco documents as a primary source. Read up on research detailing tobacco control in LGBT communities, plain packaging and health warning labels, and tobacco company tactics in South Korea to name a few.

Updated documents added to LTDL
New documents were added or updated today -
- 48,264 Philip Morris documents were updated with new metadata. This is part of an ongoing project to add names, organizations and brands to the 3 fields "person mentioned," "organization mentioned." and "tobacco brands" that were left blank by the companies PM, RJR and Lorillard. We hope the enhanced indexing will aid in better search and retrieval of these documents.

New Research Using Tobacco Documents
6 new citations were added to the
UCSF Tobacco Documents Bibliography. This brings the total number of papers, reports, articles, and books using the documents to 790!
Read up on the development of scientific consultants, trade policy in Thailand, and Philip Morris's search for "corporate social value," to name a few.

Over 50,000 RJR Documents Added Today!
59,790 new RJ Reynolds documents were added to the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library.
In addition,
297 Lorillard and Philip Morris documents have been updated with more comprehensive metadata as a part of a very large indexing project. In partnership with the company, Samasource, we are adding metadata to tens of thousands of PM, RJR and Lorillard documents where the "persons mentioned," "organizations mentioned," and "brands" fields were previously left blank. This ongoing project will provide more comprehensive and relevant search results for users.
