Report Released - "Tobacco Money in California"
Tobacco interests spent a total of $9.3 million on campaign contributions and lobbying in California during the 2009-2010 election cycle and have spent nearly $100 million over the last decade, according to a new report by the Center for Tobacco Policy & Organizing, a project of the American Lung Association in California.

This brings the total number of documents in LTDL to 13,347,978!
In addition to new documents, we have also updated the Philip Morris Glossary of Names taken from the Privilege Log, and added a new page under the Help tab listing the 4-letter Case Name codes found in the Litigation Usage field (usage:). We hope this will aid users in finding documents pertaining to specific cases in some of the collections.

New Research into Menthol, Excise Taxes, Cigarette Filters and the FCTC
16 new papers and publications have been added to the
Tobacco Documents Bibliography. Read all about British American Tobacco's efforts to influence tax rates in Central America; the cigarette filter problem; Germany and the FCTC; and social responsibility in tobacco production. Also included in the additions are 7 papers that originated from document research conducted by UCSF for the FDA's Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee on Menthol.

Tobacco Companies Take Political Support Underground
"The industry, which includes employees and political action committees associated with tobacco companies, has taken to channeling money through harder-to-track organizations connected to candidates. These include leadership PACs, which members of Congress may sponsor, and 527 groups, which are barred from donating to candidates but may campaign and advertise on their behalf."

193,527 New Documents Added Today
LTDL added almost 200,000 new documents today bringing the total to 74,966,105 pages in 13,231,594 documents!
Here's a breakdown of the new documents added today:
- Philip Morris - 193,316 documents. These new documents include approx 8,600 documents that were previously confidential or privileged and are now available!

View the 5,369 "formerly privileged" documents
- British American Tobacco - 168 documents
- Multimedia Collection - 43 videos. These include 24 discs of cigarette TV commercials from the 1940s-1970s taken from the History of Advertising Archives through the Pollay Collection. Compilations highlight the various ad campaigns of major brands over the years as well as television show sponsorship including "Your Hit Parade", "Gunsmoke" and the "I Love Lucy" show.
