Tobacco Control Research Fellowships at UCSF
Applications are due by January 27, 2010, for fellowships beginning July 1, 2010.
The fellowship supports two years of postdoctoral training in tobacco related research. Postdoctoral fellows will have exposure to diverse training including both didactic coursework and individualized mentoring to build a personalized research program. Fellows have come from an array of disciplines, including medicine, public health, nursing, economics, political science, law, sociology, psychology, and cell biology.
We offer individual mentorship with UCSF faculty along with courses in tobacco specific topics, health policy, cancer control and prevention, grant and scientific writing skills, career development, interdisciplinary research, and biostatistics.
Postdoctoral trainees will receive an annual salary commensurate with their experience, approximately $37,000-$51,000, according to the NIH stipend scale. Academic Background Required: Doctorate/Equivalent Degree.

New DATTA, PM and USSTC Documents
We've added
6094 new documents to LTDL today!
The breakdown of additions by collection:
- Philip Morris - 2155 documents from their Engineering and Leaf Department files
- British American Tobacco - 462 documents
- US Smokeless Tobacco Co - 1193 documents

200,000+ New Documents Added Today
We've added a large batch of new documents to the
Legacy Tobacco Documents Library today!
These additions include over 200,000 Tobacco Institute documents from
Tobacco Documents Online (TDO) which were indexed and processed by Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI); new US Smokeless Tobacco Company documents; and Philip Morris Engineering and Leaf Department documents that had previously been in storage on microfilm.
The breakdown of additions is as follows:
Lorillard - 93 documents
Philip Morris - 1123 documents
RJ Reynolds - 2491 documents
Tobacco Institute - 207,825 documents
USSTCo - 478 documents
Total: 212,010 documents
To find these newly added documents, search on the date they were posted to LTDL -
ddu:20090716**As of Thursday, July 16, 2009, LTDL contains 53,689,389 pages in 10,304,061 documents.

Pollay Advertising Collection Posted to LTDL
Richard W. Pollay is a past Curator of the History of Advertising Archives, University of British Columbia. He has written many articles for peer reviewed journals, US Surgeon General Reports and National Cancer Institute Monographs based upon his own research and access to corporate documents. A large portion of Dr. Pollay's 10,000+ collection of cigarette print advertising was processed and indexed by
Roswell Park Cancer Institute and originally housed on the
Tobacco Documents Online (TDO) site. TDO has graciously shared the images and metadata with LTDL.
The
Pollay Advertising Collection currently contains
7,572 documents of mostly colored print advertisements created by the tobacco industry. More documents will be added as we receive them.

In addition to the Pollay Advertising Collection, 10 new Philip Morris documents were added as well as 1101 new RJ Reynolds confidential document index records.

New CTR Documents and USSTC Audio Tapes Posted Today
A total of 28,634 new documents were posted to the
Legacy Tobacco Documents Library today.
The breakdown is as follows:
- Council for Tobacco Research (CTR) - 28522 documents (from Tobacco Documents Online's Roswell Park Collection)
- US Smokeless Tobacco (USSTC) - 101 records of audio recordings (available through the UCSF Library's Archives and Special Collections)
- Philip Morris - 1 document
- RJ Reynolds - 10 documents (very large documents)
