Formerly Privileged Documents Posted

1101 new documents have been added to the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library:

  • 359 new Lorillard documents
  • 462 formerly privileged Philip Morris documents - this means we now have the document itself and not just the metadata record
  • 280 new Philip Morris privileged document records

To see all of the newly added documents, search on the date the documents were added to LTDL in a yyymmdd format - "ddu:20100909" (without quotes).

Over 43,000 Philip Morris documents have been added to the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library today. You can search for these documents by entering "ddu:20100819" (without the quotation marks) in the search query box.

New Multimedia Added to LTDL

42 RJ Reynolds documents and 30 videos were added to LTDL on Thursday, July 15, 2010. To access these additions, search LTDL for ddu:20100715

In addition, 101 U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) audio recordings now have detailed metadata and are available for viewing and downloading through the Internet Archive: http://www.archive.org/details/tobaccoarchives_audio

To find these audio recordings on LTDL, search the Multimedia collection for dt:audio AND origcn:us smokeless tobacco.

These audio recordings from 1970-1980s contain radio commercials for Skoal, Copenhagen, Skoal Bandits, and Happy Days, announcements for promotional events at 7-Eleven and other retail outlets, as well as radio reports and interviews about the launch of the Weyman-Bruton chewing tobacco brand.

11 New Papers Added to the Bibliography

11 new or revised citations have been added to the ever-growing Tobacco Documents Bibliography. Read about research on the genetics of nicotine addiction; the tobacco industry and the Clinton Health Plan; tobacco-disabled veterans and disability pensions; the tobacco industry and African American and Latino labor organizations; and the "We Card" program among others.

Over 4000 documents were added to LTDL today!
  • British American Tobacco - 1282 documents - previously found in the BATCo Collection on the UCSF Library Website
  • Council for Tobacco Research (CTR) - 3406 documents

New Papers Added to the Bibliography

Read up! New research is always being done using the tobacco industry documents and we've added 14 new papers and publications to the Tobacco Documents Bibliography for March and April.

Topics include:

  • Cigarette package design and adolescent perceptions of brands
  • Levels of mint and wintergreen in smokeless tobacco products vs. confectionery products
  • Human electroencephalography and the tobacco industry
  • Tobacco use in mental health and addiction treatment settings

This bibliography lists publications and papers based upon research and analysis of the tobacco industry documents. If you know of any resources that should be included in the bibliography, please contact LTDL.
